Carl Friedrich von Weizsaecker, 1912-2007

His name is well-known for the famous semi-empirical formula for the masses of stable nuclei, which works very well except for magic numbers and some other peculiarities. His brother Richard was President of Germany before and after the fall of the Berlin wall. He was involved along with Werner Heisenberg with the German bomb project, a saga that has never been satisfactorily explained.
